Dev Blog #32 – CURE Alpha Road Map

Cleb - October 26, 2017

DevBlog32Wide

With genetic engineering and gene crafting added to CURE, we feel it is time to re-address the direction and path for CURE and what our goals are for the near future.

Current Goals

Our main goal right now is to finish the alpha stage of CURE and release it into early access. Early access is an important milestone for us (and it’s an achievement that will make us very proud to see accomplished), and we look forward to increasing the amount of player and getting even more great feedback from the community. In order to achieve this goal we need to finish the following.

Add remaining bacteria units:

We would like to have all of the initially planned bacteria units finished as well as their basic abilities. This will allow us to see how the units work together and hopefully head off any major problems for the future.

Add ability modifications:

One of the major features for CURE is the ability to change your abilities to suit different play styles and strategies. To this end we want to add more ways to change and modify your units abilities us our already built genetic engineering system. This system will also allow us to add new content to pre existing units and abilities in the future.

Add more environments:

We would like to add more environments to CURE.

Add Advanced Experiments (Boss Fights):

We would like to have at least a few Advanced Experiments finished and tested. Advanced experiments will give players another way to see the progress of their pathogen, as well as give players a break from the usual matches. Players will have to best unique and difficult challenges including new and custom units. This system will also give us tools to give players more predictable rewards.

Technical Fixes and improvements:

There is a list of small technical changes we would like to see made. Many of these changes may not be noticeable to the player, but will increase the overall quality of the game.

Game Balance:

We are going to put a lot more time into balancing CURE.

We are hesitant to post a release date for Early Access, but as we complete more content players should be able to follow along and see where we are throughout the creation of CURE.

After Early Access

After we release on Early Access we plan to have a grace period where we will concentrate on addressing bugs and feedback from our Early Access players. After this grace period is over we plan to go full steam ahead on converting CURE back into a multiplayer game. Some players may remember that CURE was a functioning multiplayer game a while back. Since the multiplayer tests, we have shifted development to a single player experience, because it is much easier and less error prone to test different game mechanics quickly and easily. This switch allowed us to get CURE out to the public and to get frequent feedback from the community about what game mechanics played well and which ones didn’t.. The early multiplayer tests allowed us to experiment with the intricacies of making a multiplayer game, whereas the single player Alpha allowed us to make some of the needed major gameplay decisions, so we will be combining what we have learned from both tests to create CURE.

So after we settle into Early Access we will begin work on the multiplayer functionality once again, and finally give players the ability to show off their creations and compete with other players head to head.

Once CURE is in early access, we will give the community an updated road map so you can join us in the journey to the official release of CURE.
