Dev Blog #23 – AI IQ

This last week we have spent most our time improving the AI in CURE. In v1.1.1b the enemy bacteria are very simple, they just wander and attack the player. In the next patch enemy bacteria will play the game in much the same way the player does. They will be able to search for resources, breed, and attack the player en masse. This is a great change for many reasons. One of the biggest benefits to this new AI in our opinion is now we will no longer just fill the map with enemies for you to find, they will grow, breed, and eventually creating a large army to contest the player with all on their own. This will drastically change the way the game is played, some examples are: players will now have competition for resources, early victories can have a large impact on the end of the match, and enemies now have to manage their resources. These changes to the AI are necessary to begin to create new game modes and levels. Improvements to our level generator are being made to give the player more consistent starting locations which has been requested by many of you. We are also overhauling the level system in general which we will go over in more detail at a later date. Thanks for your feedback it’s been very helpful.
