Dev Blog #6 – Upcoming Developments
Cleb - December 8, 2016
We here on the Cryogenic Entertainment Team have been working hard to implement a number of really exciting changes into the upcoming versions of the CURE Closed Alpha.
Our current Roadmap is as follows:
1. More Interactive Objects
2. More Units
3. More Game Modes
4. Genetic Engineering
5. Ability to Save Progress
6. Switching Forums
Interactive Objects
In the very next upcoming update, we will be adding a new type of object into the game called ‘Chemical Objects’. Chemical Objects, are free floating objects throughout the level that can be harvested from. They can be pushed around, allowing you to harvest from them at your leisure and out of harm’s way. With the addition of these Chemical Objects, the amount of chemicals that are normally found inside of a level will be lowered, making these Chemical Objects very valuable, and worth defending and protecting.
New units
Within the next few updates, we have a number of new units that we wish to try out, each with some pretty unique abilities.
Game Modes
Right now, the game is pretty straight forward (as well as pretty intentionally difficult), you have to kill all of your opponent’s units before the timer runs out. In the future, the AI will be upgraded to better simulate an opposing human player, but for now, the AI is very simplistic. In the next few updates, we will be adding more types of objectives to the game, each with new and exciting rewards (see more in the Genetic Engineering section below). One of these game modes will be ‘Survival’, in which some of your units must survive within a given amount of time, in an ever increasingly hostile environment.
Genetic Engineering
This is one of our favorite upcoming features, as well as one of the most difficult to implement… this is where you, the player, can permanently create and upgrade your own units. There is a lot to discover and learn about Genetic Engineering, so stay tuned for more information!
Save Progress
Right now, the CURE Closed Alpha is more in a ‘Tech Demo’ type state; It should give you an idea of the ‘feel’ of the game, while we test new combat abilities and units. In a future patch, we will add the ability to save your progress throughout the game, and the game will take on a whole new experience, where you can upgrade your units so that you can take on harder and harder opponents.
Switching Forums
We have used our own forums to accomplish a few specific goals (mainly as a way to communicate and get specific feedback in a private and non-public way), and we have met those goals. We will be retiring the forums soon, and we hope you will join the developers on the CURE Subreddit. We may bring back the forums in the future, if the need arises, and if we do, it will be recreated from the ground up.
